Tennessee became the 16th state on June 1, 1796.

Its quarter features three musical instruments: a guitar, trumpet, and fiddle, accompanied by sheet music and the inscription “Musical Heritage.”

The instruments represent the diverse musical traditions associated with Tennessee—from the country and bluegrass sounds of Middle and East Tennessee to the blues and jazz traditions of the western part of the state.
