History

New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution on June 21, 1788.

Its quarter features the Old Man of the Mountain, the famous natural granite profile that once overlooked Franconia Notch. Although the formation collapsed in 2003, its image remains one of New Hampshire's most recognizable symbols.

The design also includes nine stars, representing New Hampshire's place as the ninth state, along with the state motto “Live Free or Die.”

When transformed into a ring, portions of this historic imagery and lettering wrap around the band, preserving a small piece of Granite State history.
