History

Missouri became the 24th state on August 10, 1821.

Its quarter features Lewis and Clark returning down the Missouri River, with the Gateway Arch rising behind them.

The inscription “Corps of Discovery 1804–2004” recognizes the bicentennial of the expedition that helped explore the lands acquired through the Louisiana Purchase.
