History

Illinois became the 21st state on December 3, 1818.

Its quarter features a young Abraham Lincoln within the outline of Illinois, with a farm scene on one side and the Chicago skyline on the other. The imagery connects Illinois' agricultural heritage with its modern urban identity.

The coin also includes 21 stars, recognizing Illinois as the 21st state.
