History
Florida became the 27th state on March 3, 1845.
Its quarter brings together three dramatically different chapters of Florida history: a 16th-century Spanish galleon, the outline of the state with sabal palm trees, and a Space Shuttle.
The galleon represents Florida's early European exploration, while the Space Shuttle recognizes the state's enormous role in America's space program. The inscription “Gateway to Discovery” connects these eras through a shared theme of exploration.
When formed into a ring, pieces of this distinctive imagery and lettering become wrapped around the band.
