History
The Connecticut State Quarter was released in 1999 as the fifth coin in the 50 State Quarters Program. Connecticut became the fifth state to ratify the Constitution on January 9, 1788.
The reverse features the Charter Oak, the enormous white oak traditionally associated with the preservation of Connecticut's Royal Charter in 1687. According to the famous story, the charter was hidden within the tree to prevent its seizure by representatives of King James II.
The original Charter Oak eventually fell during a storm in 1856, but its image remains an enduring symbol of Connecticut's independence and history.
When transformed into a ring, portions of the spreading branches, lettering, and original coin details wrap around the band, giving each Connecticut coin ring its own character.
