History

Washington became the 42nd state on November 11, 1889.

Its quarter features a king salmon leaping from the water with Mount Rainier rising behind it.

Mount Rainier is one of Washington's most recognizable natural landmarks, while salmon have played an essential role in the ecology, cultures, and history of the Pacific Northwest.

The design carries the inscription “The Evergreen State.”
