History

Maryland became the seventh state to ratify the Constitution on April 28, 1788.

The quarter prominently features the dome of the Maryland State House, one of America's most historically significant state capitol buildings.

Surrounding it are branches from the White Oak, Maryland's state tree. The State House served as the nation's capitol from 1783 to 1784 and was where the Continental Congress ratified the Treaty of Paris, formally ending the Revolutionary War.
